Everton Launch Healthy Blues Programme

Everton in the Community has launched a new exercise programme for the over 40s promoting physical activity and a healthier lifestyle.

The programme, known as ‘Healthy Blues’, is a new mental health initiative aimed at service users aged 40 plus living in the borough of Sefton, which will be delivered in partnership with and funded by Mersey Care NHS Trust.

The weekly programme will take place at Dunes Leisure Centre in Southport catering for both males and females of all ability levels. There will be a variety of activities to get involved with, including circuit training, fun based classes, multi sports, badminton and table tennis as well as personalised exercise and nutrition plans.

The new scheme is an extension to Everton’s award-winning mental health programme, Imagine Your Goals, and has been established to cater for this age group after Everton in the Community coaches noticed a gap in local provision.  The programme will offer participants the chance to benefit from activity specifically tailored for this age group.

One participant who attended the first session said: “It’s the first time I have done exercise in a very long time.  I really enjoyed it as the Everton coaches were really friendly.  There were lots of activities to do and I will definitely becoming every week as I want to improve my fitness and lose weight.”
